Tourist Business Administration Department

The Business Administration (Tourism Management) course at University of Tasmania is designed to produce graduates with a sound knowledge of the fundamental principles and concepts of management, a familiarity with significant literature in the field and the ability to review, consolidate, extend and apply the knowledge and techniques to the tourism management sector.

It seeks to produce graduates with knowledge, skills and with an understanding of best practice in tourism management, who recognise the value of research, critical thinking and effective communication. Graduates develop professional skills in such areas as interpersonal communication, services management, team work, report writing and problem-solving techniques

The course provides holders of a Tasmanian TAFE Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management or equivalent qualification with the opportunity to gain a professional university degree in tourism management.

The Course Learning Outcomes are:

  • Evaluate relevant ethical and legal considerations in an impartial way for specialised business management;
  • Obtain, analyse and interpret data relevant to making evidence-based decisions in business management tasks in complex contexts;
  • Critically apply a broad, coherent and in-depth knowledge of foundational and contemporary business management theories, concepts, practical principles, and processes;
  • Exercise judgement to recommend appropriate solutions for business management tasks in complex contexts;
  • Effectively communicate complex business management ideas in a broad set of personal and group contexts.
